Pennsylvania Lottery Wins Two Batchy Awards for "Gus" Radio Spot

PITTSBURGH, October 16, 2006 - The Pennsylvania Lottery brought home two Batchy Awards from the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries annual conference in Chicago.

Gus, the second most famous groundhog in Pennsylvania, starred in the winning 60-second radio spot. As always, he was touting the joys of scratchin' the Pennsylvania Lottery instant tickets...this time at a rock concert. The Gus spot was honored in two categories - Use of Humor (Radio) and Radio Advertising/Offline Games. MARC USA Senior Copywriter Martin Chabala wrote the winning spot.

The Batchy, named for Lottery industry leader Ralph Batch, is the most prestigious award for lottery television and radio advertising. For Gus and his creators at MARC USA and the Pennsylvania Lottery, it’s the equivalent of winning a movie Oscar or a national Addy.

Acting Lottery Director Ed Trees reports that Lottery players love Gus. "With Gus and our new games and prize structure, the Lottery has been setting all-time sales records." This year the Lottery experienced the greatest annual sales increase in its 34-year history.
